Samsung, with net income of $ 11.2 billion, was founded in 1938 in South Korea by Lee Byungchul and is the company with the largest turnover in the field of technology. It is more than 184.2 billion dollars representing more than 10% of gross domestic product of South Korea. The Korean group employs more than 276’000 employees in various industries such as manufacturing of appliances, processors, televisions, digital media, buildings, and LNG tankers.
Samsung mobile phones
In 2007, Samsung was in third place in the market of mobile phones behind Nokia and Motorola. Its market share will continue to increase over its competitors… Samsung has a rapid integration into the smartphone market with its main operating systems: Bada, Android and Windows phone 7. The mobile phone is more than 20% of its revenues, or about $ 35 billion.
Not only manufacturer, Samsung is primarily a supplier of hardware for high-end phones. The Korean company provides most of the parts necessary for the construction of Apple Iphones.
Chaebol
Samsung is a company called “Chaebol” in South Korea. The chaebol (pronunciation tɕɛːbəl) are sets of companies, a variety of fields, maintaining cross-shareholdings between them. They are the Korean equivalent of the ancient Japanese zaibatsu (dissolved by the U.S. occupation authorities and reappeared in the form of keiretsu). Both expressions are written elsewhere with the same Chinese characters (财阀), the difference is in pronunciation.
Because Samsung is a chaebol, it has been diversified into many fields: Smartphones, Ships, Engineering, household appliances…
Life at Samsung
Working over 10 hours a day, employees of Samsung are housed near their place of work and attend classes at night to improve their knowledge in new technologies.The education of their children is also in universities and schools of Korean group. Staff salaries are on average 5,000 to 10,000 dollars depending on qualifications and rank in the firm, but all employees are obliged to have a Samsung Insurance and lodge in the houses has been built by engineers of Samsung.
Samsung-owned companies
- Liquavista screen technology was acquired by Samsung in January 2011 with the aim of the new aircraft equipped with the Korean company.
- Samsung Engineering, founded in 1980, is a new technology team specialized in skyscrapers like the Burj Khalifa. This subsidiary employs over 6,000 employees and generated revenue of $ 4 billion.
- Samsung Motors is owned 20% by the Korean company, it was bought in part by Renault in 2000 and will subsequently be renamed Renault Samsung Motors.
Samsung and Bada
Bada is the operating system for Samsung smartphone based on the proprietary operating system OS1 SHP. It is easy to differentiate, all phones in Bada have a name beginning with Samsung Wave.
